On 26 January 2016, the Court of Appeals, composed of a mixed panel of two international judges and one local judge, affirmed the acquittal of the defendants in the “Klecka” case.
The panel found that although it has clearly been proven that throughout 1999 multiple war crimes, in particular killings and beatings of Albanian and Serbian prisoners, were committed in the former KLA detention center in the Klecka village, the involvement of the defendants could not be clearly proven beyond reasonable doubts. Therefore the Court of Appeals affirmed the judgment of acquittal rendered by the Basic Court of Pristina. The Court of Appeal`s reasoned judgment was issued on 12 May 2016.
